Not only does it require minimum time and effort, but it can have a significant impact on how many creepy-crawlies you see around your home in 2022.

The Importance of Pest Control in 2022

Pests and rodents aren't simply a hassle and headache. These critters can severely affect the health of you and your family. For example, rodents can leave droppings on or near food they find in your kitchen, which can make you very ill if accidentally consumed. Pests of all kinds can carry viruses and bacteria that require long-term treatment, such as Salmonella and E. coli. Others can make existing medical conditions, like asthma, even worse. And of course, you have the biters. Even if they aren’t as harmful, they can be very annoying (i.e., mosquitos).

With spring coming up quickly, here are some pests to start looking out for!

Preventative pest control can stop problems before they even start. However, it’s important to remember that pest control isn’t a one-and-done treatment. Each year we have a few customers who call us at the beginning of the year for pest treatments, and then several months later, we aren’t able to reach them for their next service. All of a sudden, the bugs are back.

Just like any good habit, consistency is key to success. Here are a few simple ways you can strengthen your home’s defense against pests!

How to Keep Pests Out of Your Home

Pest prevention can look a lot like everyday chores around the house. You may be able to knock out this entire list in one afternoon! Here are some of your recommended tips to prevent pests and rodents from entering your home:

  • Seal cracks and holes on the outside of your home around windows, door frames, and entry points for utilities and pipes.
  • Keep tree branches and other shrubberies well-trimmed and away from entry points to your house, these act as a “bridge” for pests.
  • Keep basements, attics, and crawl spaces well-ventilated and dry.
  • Opt for plastic storage boxes instead of cardboard.
  • Keep food, especially opened packages, sealed and stored in the kitchen. Clean your pantry regularly, as “bad food” has a stronger smell and is more likely to attract pests and rodents.
  • Store garbage or food waste in sealed containers and dispose of it regularly.
  • Clean sink and floor drains (baking soda and vinegar make an excellent home remedy!), as they can attract pests such as small flies and make an ideal breeding site.
  • Repair areas with damaged or deteriorating wood, which attracts certain pests.
  • Store firewood 20 feet away from your house.

While these tips are a great first step in minimizing how pests and rodents can get into your home, qualified pest professionals can provide you with advice and treatment for a long-term solution.
